Anesthesia consumables are the single-use items a clinician handles between skin preparation and the moment the anesthetic reaches the patient: the spinal and epidural needles, the loss-of-resistance syringe, the catheter and its bacterial filter, the nerve stimulator probe, and the pump that continues the infusion afterwards. Buying them as one category from one manufacturer matters more than it first appears — a tray assembled from four suppliers means four sets of sterilization certificates, four batch-traceability systems and four registration files to defend at audit.

This category covers the full anesthesia pathway: neuraxial access (spinal, epidural, combined spinal-epidural), peripheral nerve block, airway management, and post-operative infusion. Needle gauges run from 18G to 27G in Quincke, pencil-point and Tuohy designs; kits can be configured as sterile procedure packs or supplied as loose components for your own assembly line. Every item is single-use, EO or gamma sterilized, and delivered with the batch documentation your registration and pharmacovigilance systems require.

Most of our anesthesia customers are not buying a needle — they are buying a documented supply of a CE-marked, ISO 13485-certified consumable that will pass their importer's audit. That is the standard this category is built to.

Not sure which gauge and tip design matches your protocol? Send us the procedure type (spinal, epidural, CSE, nerve block), the patient group and the market you import into. We will map it to the correct needle specification and confirm which registration documents that market requires — before you commit to a purchase order.

Anesthesia Consumables in practice

  • Labour and delivery epidural — 16G–18G Tuohy needles with loss-of-resistance technique and catheter sets
  • Orthopaedic and general surgery spinal — 25G–27G pencil-point or Quincke needles chosen for PDPH risk profile
  • Regional nerve block — 21G–22G stimulating or non-stimulating block needles, with or without ultrasound guidance
  • Combined spinal-epidural (CSE) — matched needle sets that avoid a second puncture
  • Post-operative pain infusion — elastomeric or electronic pumps with fixed or adjustable flow
  • ICU and emergency airway — intubation kits and endotracheal securing consumables

Choosing the right Anesthesia Consumables

Work backwards from the procedure, not the catalogue code. Four decisions settle 90% of anesthesia consumable orders:

  1. Access route. Spinal, epidural, CSE or peripheral block — this decides needle type before anything else. A Tuohy bevel is for epidural; a pencil-point tip is for spinal; block needles need a different shaft stiffness and often a stimulator connection.
  2. Gauge versus patient and technique. Smaller gauge (higher number) reduces post-dural-puncture headache but increases the technical difficulty and insertion time. 25G–27G is common for spinal in younger patients; 22G–25G is a frequent compromise for older or ambulatory patients.
  3. Kit or loose components. A procedure kit shortens theatre set-up and carries one sterilization certificate; loose components cut unit cost and let you build your own pack. If you assemble packs in-house, choose loose; if you distribute direct to hospitals, choose the kit.
  4. What your market will ask for. Decide this early — the registration dossier you need (EU MDR technical file, CE certificate, free-sale certificate, local registration) determines which documentation pack we prepare alongside the goods.

How we control quality for Anesthesia Consumables

The questions that decide whether an anesthesia consumable passes an importer's audit are not about price. They are these six:

  • Sterilization. Ethylene oxide or gamma, with the sterilization method, cycle and SAL 10⁻⁶ stated on the label. EO lots are aerated and residual-tested to ISO 10993-7 before release.
  • Biocompatibility. ISO 10993 testing appropriate to contact type — needles and catheters are blood- and tissue-contacting devices, so cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation and, where relevant, pyrogenicity are covered.
  • Batch traceability. Every unit carries a lot number linking it to sterilization batch, raw-material batch and release record. Ask us for a specimen traceability sheet before you order.
  • Quality system. Manufactured under ISO 13485; CE marking under EU MDR with an EU Authorised Representative. Certificates and scope are available for your technical file.
  • Particle and sharpness control. Needle lumens are flushed and inspected; tip geometry is ground to a controlled point angle with batch-level sharpness checks rather than spot checks.
  • Change control. Material or process changes that affect the device are notified to registered customers — your notified body expects a supplier who tells you, not one you discover.

Common questions about Anesthesia Consumables

What sterilization method do you use for anesthesia needles and kits?

Needles and procedure kits are sterilized either by ethylene oxide or gamma irradiation, selected by product and packaging type and stated on the label. EO lots are aerated and tested for residual ethylene oxide and ethylene chlorohydrin against ISO 10993-7 limits before release; gamma lots are dose-mapped and verified. Both routes are validated to SAL 10⁻⁶ and the sterilization record is tied to the lot number on the unit.

Which documents do you provide for registering these products in my market?

We provide the manufacturer-side documentation your registration holder needs: ISO 13485 certificate, CE marking certificate and EU MDR technical file, free-sale certificate, declaration of conformity, sterilization and biocompatibility reports, shelf-life and packaging validation, and a specimen traceability sheet. Market-specific requirements vary — tell us the destination country and we will confirm the exact document set before the order is placed.

Is a combined spinal-epidural kit available as a single sterile pack?

Yes. CSE kits are supplied as one sterile pack with the epidural needle, the longer spinal needle passing through it, the catheter, filter, loss-of-resistance syringe and positioning aids. The two needles are length-matched so the spinal needle projects the correct distance beyond the Tuohy tip — this is specified on the drawing and verified in production, not left to the user.

How do you control needle sharpness from batch to batch?

Tip geometry is ground to a controlled point angle, then inspected for burrs and edge quality; penetration force is measured on samples from each production batch against an internal limit. Siliconization, where specified, is applied and cured as a controlled step so the lubricity does not drift between lots. Batch-level data is retained with the release record.

What is the minimum order quantity for OEM anesthesia consumables?

MOQ depends on the item and the level of customization: standard catalogue items ship in lower quantities than private-label kits with your own artwork and configuration. As a guide, loose needles and standard kits start at low five-figure unit quantities, while a fully custom sterile procedure pack is quoted on the configuration. Tell us the item and your annual volume and we will quote the MOQ for that specific line.

Can you supply private-label packaging and sterilized procedure packs?

Yes. We produce private-label boxes, pouches and procedure packs with your brand, part numbers and IFU, including the label content your market requires (lot, expiry, sterilization method, legal manufacturer, EU Authorised Representative where applicable). Artwork proofing and label verification are part of the project, not an afterthought.
